Eramangalam: Manoj Nakkola never considered his 3-feet height an obstruction or a curse to soar greater heights. Defying all the beliefs regarding physical beauty, this Eramangalam native won ‘Mr Asia’ title.
28-year-old Manoj was selected as Mr Asia in the Indo-Pacific Body Building Championship in Physically Challenged category that was held in Bengaluru. He was the lone Malayali who took part in the competition participated by contestants from 11 countries.
The competition was organised by World Fitness Federation. Manoj was selected for the competition after he won Mr Malappuram, Mr Kerala held in Kottayam and Mr India held in Ernakulam.
Standing in front of his thatched hut, Manoj spoke about how he converted the home-grown sweet potato and spinach into protein diet.
Manoj sells lottery tickets to make ends meet and his family consists of his elderly parents. While participating in competitions, one has to strictly follow certain diets but that is not possible for Manoj, as it would cost him around Rs 400 daily.
He had participated in competitions held in Ernakulam and Bengaluru with the help of friends and well-wishers.
The world competition will be held in Malaysia in February 2020. Manoj wishes to participate in the competition and is hopeful of winning the title. But the only hindrance in front of him is raising funds for it.
